Thank You very much for viewing my listing! I believe that "elbow grease" and paste wax produces a better result than a can of paint or varnish.I strive to retain the historical value of the clock, keeping original parts and exterior finish when possible. I have accumulated many wonderful clocks and need to sell several so I can continue my hobby, bringing old clocks back to life. All of the clocks that I will be listing have been running and chiming accurately in my home. They may require some adjustment in your house for accuracy. Please view pictures carefully as a major part of the description, all questions will be promptly answered. For your consideration is this large "New Haven" Westminster Chime Tambour Clock, circa 1924. This is Collector quality, as it is untouched and near mint, inside and out!! It stands 10.75" tall by 22.75" wide and 6.5 deep. New Haven clocks were very well made, this was a high end expensive clock when new, it was cherished by the purchaser and his heirs.
I received this clock from the estate of the elderly son of the original owner, it was in the same room for over ninety years in a wealthy suburb of Detroit. The solid mahogany case has aged to a slightly "crackled" patina (see closeup pic #5) and is even throughout. The front features an Ebonized base and Ebony triangle inlay astride the lower dial. The case sits flat and sturdy on the mantle, without wobbling. The rear access door it is solid and tight with a 3 brass amplifier opening retaining the original faded red dust filter cloth. The 6.5 heavy steel dial features slanted gold Arabic numerals with very slight key nicks around the arbor openings. The brass bezel is original, heavy an shiny, it closes securely after winding. The crystal of thick glass and beveled to fit into the bezel, it is clear and blemish free.
The movement contains 3 drive trains, one for the time, one for the Westminster chimes and one for the hour announcement. It chimes every 15 minutes sequentially on 4 rods and announces the hour on a single resonating bass rod. It is clean, tight and newly oiled, it runs and strikes accurately.
Comes with the original pendulum bob and replacement key. This clock will come to your home ready to display, just place it on a near level surface, hang the pendulum bob and enjoy it for years to come! This beautiful clock would be a great addition to your collection or a wonderful gift!
I will be listing more quality clocks before Christmas! Be sure to add me to your favorites list. If you like Antique Clocks!
