Mid-Century German Mauthe Westminster Chime 8-Day Wall Clock Excellent. Up for sale is this very nice 8-day Westminster chime wall clock made by Mauthe of Germany and probably dating to the 1950's-60's.
The Mauthe Clock Company was originally founded in 1844 by Friedrich Mauthe with the purpose of producing watch parts. By the late 1860's, Mauthe began to produce their own clocks. The company was very successful and in existence to the third generation until it was forced to close in 1976. We acquired this clock at an estate sale a number of years ago and have been using it ever since. It is in great condition and runs and chimes well. The Westminster chime sounds at the quarter hour with 4 notes, half hour with 8 notes, 3/4 hour with 12 notes and top of the hour with 16 notes plus the number of hours. The clock measures 15 1/2" tall x 13" wide x 4 3/4 deep. There is a lever inside that can silence the chimes if desired. I'm not sure what the wood is but could be Maple.
