The movement was serviced recently and I noticed that it bears the "F Mauthe" name... Beautifully crafted clock and highly coveted! The case is made entirely of wood and finished in blends of light mahogany and walnut; very nice!
There is a formed and curvy glass crystal inset near the bottom allowing for easy viewing of the brass pendulum as it swings back and forth; no cracks or chips that I can see. The top is a beautiful scroll shape and there are wooden columns on either side of the dial with brass trim on the bottoms and a crown finial on the top of each. The top of the case is actually a hinged wood frame door that is secured with a metal latch on the side. There is a convex glass crystal inset into the door. The door opens easily to allow access to the winding arbors on the dial, setting the correct time, and for hanging the brass pendulum. The metal dial has a brass outer bezel and a a goldtone backdrop featuring large, easy to read, black Roman numerals at the hour marks and matching fancy metal hands to point out the time. The name, "Linden" appears here on the dial in their familiar calligraphic logo script. The back of the clock is wood too and all hardware appears to be intact. The clock is equipped with a pendulum style, key wind movement that lasts for about 8 days on a single wind. This clock plays music too!
At the quarter hour mark, the clock plays a beautiful, four-note melody on five golden metal chime bars inside the case; eight notes at the half hour mark, twelve at the 3/4 hour mark, and the full sixteen note melody at the top of each hour. The clock will then chime the current number of hours at the top of each hour, just like Big Ben in London!
This is a magnificent clock to be sure and the ideal size too measuring about 16" high, about 5 1/4" deep, and about 13 at its widest point. The clock works quite well here, keeps good time, and the chimes are heavenly though keep in mind, this is an old clock and we don't know the complete service history so some adjustments or service may be necessary once the clock arrives at its new home. We always advise our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once every three years.Doing so will keep a classic timepiece like this one, healthy for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with a brasstone metal pendulum and the winding key. I've looked the clock over fairly well and note only a very tiny, thin crack on the dome glass; very hard to see and not at all detracting; gorgeous on display! This clock is simply beautiful and is a very popular design among collectors and discerning clock owners. It will certainly impress anyone seeing or hearing it in your home, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase a magnificent German timepiece with a fabulous legacy.
