Antique 1920's French'Vedette' Chiming Wall Clock. It works, keeping time and chimes on the quarter and full hour with the Westminster Chime. The chime duration increases as it moves from 15 after to 30, 45 and 60 minutes. Every full hour the 4 gongs strike, giving out a resounding beautiful sound for the number of hours that it's accounting for.
It comes with the very rare and original owner's operation instructions (in French) and two hang tags. The case is wood with a beautiful appearance. The brass appearing ornamentation gives it a nod towards the Louis XVI style. The lower glass is beveled and the face glass is convex.
The chimes are beautiful, the best of any clock that I've had the good fortune to hear. The Westminster chime plays on 4 steel bars, as does the hour strike.
They constructed mainly quarter chime wall clocks from the 1920's up to the 1960's. They are noted for beautiful chimes, quality craftsmanship and precision designs. It has a winding key that resides in the key holder on the lower right.
