Garrard Westminster Chime Mantel Clock. A beautifully presented vintage Garrard Clocks Ltd Westminster mantel clock, manufactured in England during the early years of the company's clockmaking production and housed in an attractive oak veneered case with elegant proportions and classic styling.

Powered by its original three-train mechanical movement, this clock plays the traditional Westminster chime on each quarter hour before striking the hours on chime rods. The movement is stamped Garrard Clocks Ltd, Made in England and carries Patent No.

Garrard Clocks Ltd was formed in 1931 as a subsidiary of the well-known Garrard Engineering and Manufacturing Company, using spring motors produced by the parent firm. The wider Garrard business traced its roots back to precision engineering work for the British military during the First World War, before turning its attention to gramophone motors and, later, the turntables for which the Garrard name is still celebrated by hi-fi enthusiasts today. Garrard clocks of this era are widely regarded among collectors as some of the finest English mantel clocks produced, with engine-turned brass plates, quality steel pin bearings, and a reputation for precision that rivalled or exceeded better-known contemporaries such as Smiths. Because Garrard clocks commanded a higher price when new, surviving examples in good order turn up far less often today, making this a genuinely scarce piece rather than a common production clock. This clock has already had that work completed and tested, ready to take pride of place without the wait.

The reverse of the dial carries a hand-inscribed service mark dated November 1944, suggesting the clock was serviced during the Second World War. Please refer to the photographs, which form part of the description and accurately show the condition of the case and dial. Movement fully dismantled and cleaned. All pivots cleaned and inspected. Mainsprings serviced with Novostar oil. Pivots lubricated with synthetic clock oil. Chime/silent selector repaired and now fully functional. Test run prior to listing.

30 cm / 11.8 in. 12 cm / 4.7 in. 22 cm / 8.7 in. This is a genuine vintage mechanical clock and, like all traditional pendulum clocks, may require minor adjustment after transportation and once positioned in its new home.
