Antique 19th C. German Gustav Becker 8-Day Bracket Clock with Westminster Chimes

Here for sale is a lovely Antique 19th Century German Gustav Becker (Medaille D'or) 8-Day Bracket Clock with Westminster Chimes. One of the better quality/best-known German clockmakers from the mid to late 19th century was Gustav Becker. Born in 1819, Becker trained as a clockmaker in Germany and Austria. In 1850 he opened workshops in Freiburg, Silesia, Germany in 1850. Initially, Becker struggled with untrained help, but won the "Medaille dOr" for design at the 1852 Silesia Trade Exposition. Becker incorporated that first medal and his initials, G. This award gave him the recognition that he needed to attract skilled craftsmen to his workshops.

Numerous awards and certificates followed, from trade expos as far-flung as Australia and as close to home as Vienna. He was very adept at leveraging this new-found notoriety to the benefit of his business enterprise.

This is three train clock. The case is good quality solid mahogany with a brass dial and silvered anodised decors.

And Fast/Slow adjustment through the dial arch. Westminster chimes with 4 rods that can chimes on the quarter hour. One rod for strikes hours. The clock face is locked with an original key.

The clock measures: 36 cm in height, 27 cm in width, 19.5 cm in depth. This is a working clock and is in very good condition, given the apparent age of this timekeeping device. There is appropriate and honest wear and patina from true use over the many years.
