Here you have a quite well preserved mid century 1950s Seth Thomas American made mantel clock. Seldom seen in great condition , an opportunity to own a working example of this sough after mantle clock. From a time were items showed pride in craftsmanship and made to last, the case is solid mahogany wood with rare wood inlays- no press or composite wood here.
Mechanism is the american made 124 movement. Manufactured 1950 , it keeps time and chimes as it should with a deep nice tone from mayland chimes. Many eventually turned into heirlooms, passed down to the next of kin. Ive seen a few of these, now far and between you can find one as nice, with original finish or working properly. The case is in very, very nice shape, no dents or major flaws on sides or corners noticed other than a spot in the back door were the wood has a small impression.
Dial is nice , all numbers are clear and crisp. Comes with dual end key to adjust speed and pendulum weight. The 8 day clock mechanism works great and has been cleaned and oiled though expect to loose a minute or two as the springs unwinds towards day 8th. In this modern age of cell phones, internet and computers a mechanical clock is just a great way to warm up your living room or decor. For some folks they bring memories of simpler times gone by or loved ones.
Whatever is one or both, guarantee youll be pleased with this clock. Please understand this is an antique clock and its not brand new so normal wear is expected hence why pictures are included so you can judge condition. Unless it is really needed to save a piece I do not restore the finish and try to keep clocks as original as possible. I pack very well so you get it in one piece, please see my feedback. Like any pendulum clock, it needs a level surface for it to work properly. While not always needed, adjustment of the pendulum can help compensate for slight inclinations of the shelf or mantel and theres plenty of videos online on such- please ask if you need help setting it up.
