Antique Seth Thomas Sonora Chime 5 Bell Mantle Clock Cathedral Fresh

This clock comes from a family that has owned it forever. The owner of this clock, in his mid seventies, says that this has not only been kept in the same family (his) but has also remained in the same house (where he still lives) throughout its life. He said he once saw an old photo of his grandmother when she was in her 20's standing near this clock on the same mantle where its been kept all these years until recently.

The owner never saw this clock running, he didn't have a key. I don't know enough about it to do anything mechanical to it and would hate to break something. I didn't try adding any oil or. Having it sit on a level surface I've gotten this clock running for a couple of days and it would stop. Sometimes it will run for only 10 or 15 minutes or so.

I can always get running by moving the pendulum. So the movement will need some kind of attention. Speed can be adjusted slower or increased on its face using the key. This is a 5 bell chime movement. But when I lift one lever I can get the hourly chime to work nicely advancing each hour when activated.

I can also lift another lever? And get the remaining 4 chimes to work. The leather on 2 of the hammers may need to be changed or adjusted because the sound sounds not tuned, the other bells ring nicely, but they all do work.

This clock is in it's original unrestored condition and may need some attention. I know this is long but please read on.

The wooden mahogany case is actually in very nice original condition. There is one ding near the top front peak and one small chip to the bottom front at base, both shown in photos.

I don't see any other damage. The family always took nice care of it running or not.

Hinged door opens and closes but it's tight. I believe that's why appears to have some fingernail scratches from trying to open it.

The original glass doesn't have any scratches on it. The back door to the movement opens and closes nicely. It has the original cloth behind the round brass plate. I believe this is for sound quality.
