Here we have a lovely musical Art Deco Walnut mantel clock by the renowned Elliott of London which plays on two tunes namely Westminster and Whittington chimes. The square silvered dial is set out with Arabic numerals at the quarter hours with markers between. It is signed with the retailer'W. PERRY & Co BIRMINGHAM' and the maker AN Elliott CLOCK ENGLAND'.The walnut veneered is a nice shape and has lovely curves to the front corners. The dial is covered in beveled glass in a brass frame.
The clock is wound and the hands adjusted at the front, as can be seen from the photographs. In addition, the chimes can be silenced all via a selector to the dial located at'3', however this selector needs attention as it does not always select immediately between'CHIME and'SILENT.
The tunes are on rods such that it plays quarter of the tune at quarter past, half at half past, three quarters at quarter to and then the full tune on the hours followed by the time being struck. There is NO winding key. The approximate MAXIMUM dimensions of the clock are: 9 inches / 22.5 cm x 11 inches / 28 cm across the front of the clock x 4 1/4 inches / 11 cm cm deep. The case has off knocks / marks and odd wear to the polish. The brass has aged a little as would be expected. The marker on the dial for'8' is lacking.
The chimes can be silenced all via a selector to the dial located at'3', however this selector needs attention as it does not always select immediately between'CHIME and'SILENT'.
