Bentima Art Deco Oak Mantel Clock - Three Train Westminster Chime. Mahn & Co Clock Repairs. Bentima Art Deco Oak Mantel Clock Three Train Westminster Chime. Fully serviced Hermle movement · curved oak case · British clockmaker. A confidently sculpted Art Deco case with a soft, sweeping silhouette, and a dependable three train Hermle movement brought back to full working order for another lifetime of honest timekeeping. A handsome Bentima mantel clock in a dark stained oak case, its curved, swept side supports giving the piece a soft architectural presence rather than the more common stepped Art Deco form. The rounded top and gently waisted sides catch the light beautifully across the grain, and the whole case has a satisfying weight and solidity in the hand. The silver dial is signed Bentima 8 Day and set behind a polished brass bezel, with bold black Roman numerals, decorative fleur-de-lis half-hour markers and ornate pierced hands typical of the period. Behind the dial sits a three train German-made Hermle movement, playing the traditional Westminster chime on the quarters before striking the hour, with a clean, resonant tone from the chime rods. Bentima Co Ltd was founded in London in 1925 by Elias Buerger, who had come to Britain from Russia in 1913 and built a career as a watch and clock importer. Buerger brought together several manufacturing interests under the Bentima name, including the Perivale Clock Manufacturing Co and, later, S. Davall & Sons, and the group went on to become one of the larger British clock producers of the mid-twentieth century. Bentima's early clocks were fitted with English-made Perivale movements, but the firm also sourced German movements at various points in its history, as seen in this example's three train Hermle movement. Hermle is one of Germany's best regarded clock movement makers, and its inclusion here reflects a genuine step up in quality over Bentima's more basic Perivale-era pieces.

The case work and finishing carried the Bentima name into thousands of British homes through the middle of the last century, and surviving examples like this one remain a solid, honest way to bring a genuine piece of that history into a room. The swept, curved side supports set this apart from the more common stepped Art Deco silhouette, giving it a softer, more sculptural presence on the mantel. Ready to Enjoy, Not Just Display. Fully dismantled, cleaned, correctly lubricated and tested by hand. This isn't a project clock, it keeps time and strikes reliably from day one.

A three train Hermle movement playing the full Westminster chime, one of the most trusted names in German clockmaking and a genuine step up over more basic movements. Bentima was a well-established British clock company through the mid-twentieth century, and this clock carries that history in its dial and case. The movement has been fully stripped to component level and ultrasonically cleaned.

The mainspring barrels have been lubricated with Novostar, while synthetic clock oil has been applied correctly to the jewels and pivots throughout the movement, before careful reassembly by hand. The strike has been checked and adjusted, and the clock has then been bench tested over several days to confirm reliable running and striking before being offered for sale. The oak case has been cleaned and sympathetically refreshed to bring out the natural grain while retaining its original vintage character. The brass bezel and glass have been cleaned and polished without stripping away decades of honest patina. Movement fully stripped to component level and ultrasonically cleaned. Mainspring barrels lubricated with Novostar. Jewels and pivots correctly lubricated with synthetic clock oil.

Strike mechanism checked, adjusted and tested. Case cleaned and sympathetically refreshed.

Bezel and glass cleaned and polished. Bench tested over several days for reliable running and striking. Very good restored vintage condition. The oak case presents with a warm, deep tone and light age-related marks consistent with genuine use, mainly to the base and rear edges. The curved sides show a lovely natural sheen where the grain catches the light. The dial is clean and legible with crisp numerals, and there is some minor age-related softening to the silvering at the extreme outer edge, largely hidden once the bezel is closed. The brass bezel has a warm polished finish with light wear typical of a piece of this age, and the movement is clean and running well following its service. 20 cm (7.9 in).
