Up for sale here is a beautiful French made Vedette Westminster chiming wall clock (circa 1935) in the Art Deco fashion. The case is solid oak in the original finish. The back board, as with all quality antique chiming clocks is spruce wood. Spruce is used because it has a sound resonating quality which acts as natural amplifier, which is why it is used for the sounding board in quality pianos. The chime rods are a 4/4 arrangement, which means that there are four tuned chime rods on which hammers play the Westminster tune, and four separate tuned rods on which the four other strike hammers strike the number of the hour as a chord.
Vedette was one of the premier producers of high quality clocks in the 1930's (prior to WW2). The clocks they produced rivaled any clocks produced in Germany or America at the time. The case, convex octagon dial glass, and beveled door glass are all original to this clock.
The clock mechanism has been completely disassembled, cleaned and lubricated with high quality clock oil. All worn bushings have been correctly replaced with Swiss bronze bushings of the highest quality. The mainsprings were removed from the barrels, cleaned, inspected, and lubricated with the correct mainspring lubricant.
The clock has been subsequently run tested and adjusted to keep excellent time. The chimes are very sonorous and mellow, as they should be, with a very pleasant chord hour strike. This clock has been fully and correctly restored to operate as when it was new.
