FULLY AND PROPERLY RESTORED HERSCHEDE BRACKET CLOCK WITH WESTMINSTER CHIME. Offered for sale is a Herschede Bracket clock with Westminster Chime.

The case is also referred to as a Doric or Cabinet style and the Herschede case style is 2003, the number is stamped into the bottom of the case. The movement is serial number 13007 which indicates that the clock was made around 1921.

The clock has the original beveled glass and the case and dial are in very good condition for an item that is 100 years old. There has been a repair made to the minute hand and the chime rods appear to have been replaced at some point in the past but the clock shows well and has good tone to the chimes. I also replace the leather inserts in the hammers that strike the chime rods to improve the tone of the chimes.

I encourage you to look carefully at the 12 pictures and consider them to be a large part of the item description. Herschede was one of the finest American clocks ever made and the 8-day Westminster Chime movement is equal in many ways to the Seth Thomas 113 movement. It has thick brass plates, solid cut pinions, gear reduction winding arbors and all of the levers are nickel plated. The clock has rack and snail chime and strike linkage that automatically resets the chime and strike sequence if you forget to wind the clock.

I will also include with the clock a document that gives the complete history of the Herschede Clock Company starting with the birth of the founder, Frank Herschede on July 30, 1857. It is a great read for the new owner of this fine clock and also provides the documentation to show the year of manufacture based on the serial number of the movements. Case dimensions of this clock are 10.5 inches wide by 13.5 inches high by 7.5 inches deep.

WHAT MAKES A CLOCK A GOOD VALUE? The rules of economics are fairly straightforward. Simply put, it is almost impossible to spend a little and get a lot. Antique and vintage clocks follow these rules as well. I have tried through the photos to show the basic steps that I do in restoring these wonderful machines to their original state.

My goal is to provide you with a quality time piece that will provide enjoyment and be a source of pride in your home for years to come. Equally important to me is to provide you with a clock that I believe will retain its value over the years. That is what I think constitutes real value in antique and vintage clocks. MY PHILOSOPHY ON CLOCKS AND CLOCK MOVEMENTS.

The only way to properly repair a movement is to completely disassemble, clean and inspect all parts, and make the needed repairs by proper horoligical methods. This includes the rebushing of all worn holes and the polishing of any rough pivots. The movements are then reassembled, lubricated with a high-quality clock oil and test run for 8 days. This is a very time intensive process but is the only correct way to properly recondition a clock movement. You should expect a movement repaired in this manner to run for ten years trouble-free. I have been doing clock repair for over 40 years. I apprenticed under an Oregon State licensed repairman and have been a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) since 1981. I do not make a living doing this; it has become a passion of mine. Once they are made like new mechanically, I put them up for sale in the hopes of paying for my materials and upgrading my personal collection.

My hope is also to provide you with an heirloom to cherish for years to come. Read my feedback and you can see that I live by these words.

I also provide a set of General Clock Instructions that will answer about 95% of the questions that may arise during the setup of the clock. I start with a high-quality box.
