Gorgeous Seth Thomas Westminster Chime Clock No 74-1921 In Mahogany 113 Movement

Offered today is this beautiful 104 year old Seth Thomas Chime Clock No. 74 that was produced in the year of 1921. The solid and ribbon mahogany case looks great and was cleaned, conditioned and protected with my three step process bring out the clocks original finish. This model is accented with a contrasting wood panel or inlaid below the dial. Shown at the 9 and 3 are step down moldings that run along the top front of the clock to the front sides then to the back of the clock which is referred to as "broken arch". This design was first of its kind and later was reduced with a smaller sized 124 movement which is known as the Chime 52. The chocolate brown color case is in excellent condition maintaining little to no character marks and age lines or crazing as the pictures will show. This clock is very large and has all the best sought after features on it including a large 6 inch original silver dial that is in excellent condition. Large raised bronze Arabic numbers that can be read from across the room and bronze signature Seth Thomas serpentine hour and minute hands to compliment the dial. The convex beveled glass has no scratches or chips in it and the original finish machine clasp brass bezel opens and closes properly as it should. The original bob and the original two-sided key come with the clock. The silent chime feature for the quarter-hours only, is hidden behind the front door sash at the 2 and the adjustment for fast or slow is above the 12. This old girl really shows and sounds beautifully. Everything on this clock is fully functional and tested for a minimum of two weeks to assure that the clock will operate consistently every day for the new owner and generations to follow. This is one of the first models that came with the mammoth 113 3 train movement that has been rebuilt properly by me and weighs in at over 5 pounds.

It is definitely engineered to stand the test of time. This 3 train movement is equipped with a self-adjusting lever that will automatically adjust at the top of the hour to the correct quarter-hour chimes and the hour strike when the chime was accidentally activated. The smaller 124 movement may have been only in its testing stage during this year and eventually was the movement that replaced this larger 113 movement. Chime with the 113 movement is much slower and deeper than the 124 movement.

The leather hammer tips are in great condition so you can hear each quarter-hour beautifully chime on four Mayland chime rods. The first quarter-hour plays four notes. Eight notes on the half hour. 12 notes on the three quarter-hours, followed by the full 16 notes of the. Chime sequence at the top of each hour. After this sequence a fifth rod will be struck to mark the hour. I love the pause between the Westminster chime and the hour strike and how the strike note beat demands your attention. The Mayland chime rods are by far the most resonant and most pleasing to the ear sound that I have ever heard. Disassemble the entire clock myself completely.

Install Seth Thomas parts only on the movement as needed. Install high quality Burgeon bronze bushings instead of brass in all worn pivot holes as needed.

Clean the entire movement ultrasonically. Reassemble the clock movement, oil and lube in the proper places.

Clean the original dial or have it sent out to have it professionally silvered and restored to Seth Thomas dial specifications. Clean the case on the outside and inside, the bezel, all parts and chime rods with mild cleaners by hand careful to keep the integrity of the clock. Apply a coat of the finest wax to the outside of the case by hand. Adjust chime and strike hammer sequence properly to assure smooth and even strikes at each quarter-hour and hour. Electronically regulate the beat and adjust the speed while the clock is level to ensure accuracy for many generations.

Inspect and adjust every minor detail of the clock assuring full function and peak performance for many years to come. Test the clock for a minimum of two weeks to ensure peak and proper performance for the new owner. Smoke free, pet free home.
