KIENINGER produced its larger Westminster CHIME clocks for a couple of years of which this piece is a good example. You would not believe how this clock looked and sounded before the restauration process..... I completely disassembled every single part of this beauty, cleaned and polished all parts in- AND outside and fully SERVICED the movement. Also, the movement is REFURBISHED!
I gave the brass parts an INDUSTRIAL, Transparent Coating, so they will always keep their gorgeous shine and color; you never have to polish them ever again. The dial, with (Polished) BRASS number marks on it, has been RECOATED in High Gloss BLACK. Even the bolts underneath the clock, on which the chiming unit is assembled in the clock, have been polished, although you never see them. It is the feeling leaving nothing undone, drives me to do this. After finishing the restoring proces of all parts, I built the clock back together again, and the result is breathtaking (if I do say so myself). For the work involved, please see photo 9.
KIENINGER Clocks were made with HIGH Quality as the goal! This beauty shines like a DIAMOND! The way the body of the clock looks says it all. It has a Red-ish/ Brown-ish lower wooden body with a SUPER GLOSS FINISH. The top part comes in High Gloss Beige.
A DOUBLE, BRASS strip devides the different colored parts, creating a CHIQUE look. Even the back of the clock comes in High Gloss. The MULTI COLORED Design makes a STATEMENT! The size, looks and chime will make this piece an ABSOLUTE Eyecatcher in your home. The WESTMINSTER chime sounds G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S..
This has been the first time in my entire career, finding a Westminster clock of this age having a CURVED Shape. This indicates how rare this clock is............ Its size, CURVED shape, breathtaking WINGS and colours and the cosmetic and functional condition make this beauty a clock having a perfect balance.
It has a windable 8 days, ESCAPEMENT DRIVEN movement which has been SERVICED and functions good! Special too, is that this clock has been adjusted as good as possible!
The results with the best adjustments of the adjustment lever are as follows. After running 1 day -> -21 seconds. After running 2 days -> -43 seconds. After running 3 days -> -47 seconds. After running 4 days -> -40 seconds. After running 5 days -> -33 seconds. After running 6 days -> -23 seconds. After running 7 days -> 0 seconds. The testing results come with the clock.
Adjusting the lever is rather sensitive; an adjustment on the scale of one partition results in a delta of several minutes off. The brass details have not been forgotten in the door and the. Number marks, which are beautifully, CURVED shaped.
Just take a look at the photos for the GLOSSY nature of the clock. The door has (real) curved glass, with only a few, undeep scratches, hardly noticable. The Chime is remarkably clear and warm because of its extremely long bars. There are 5 long bars and 5 hammers.
The width of this piece gave the designer the opportunity to fill the clock with long bars. The longer the bars are, the warmer the sound is! The Westminster chime lets you know each 15 minutes what time it is.
On a quarter of an hour it plays a quarter of the chime. On half hours it plays half the chime. On 3 quarters of an hour it plays 3 quarters of the chime. And on full hours it plays the complete chime being followed by striking the full hours, corresponding with the time at that moment.
An extra feature is that there is a handle in the clock, for switching the chime on or off. Note that this clock is unmarked but definately a KIENINGER one. The diagonal engravements in the movement plate are only made by Kieninger.Of course this beauty comes with a matching key, placed in a Keyholder in the backdoor, so you can never loose it! Although this clock is in a FANTASTIC Condition for its age, it is not new.
Mentionable is that the front "feet", have been given a small, black, touch up, because the veneer had tiny imperfection at the edges. There are small imperfections of the wood at the left wing, hardly noticable when there is not strong (Sun)light shining on it, and only under a certain angle. I did my best to capture this on photo 8, but it is best to watch the YouTube video and even there, as in real, it doesnt draw the attention! The left barrel and spring it sat in, were beyond repair, so I installed a vintage replacement barrel and spring, resulting in a slight wobbling of the key when winding this spring, but it is SAFE and it works perfectly!
For the cosmetic quality in general please judge the photos and YouTube video mentioned at the top of this listing. Please keep in mind when judging the pictures, that photos showing you the details are extremely enlarged. This means that even small cosmetic imperfections are seen where you would not be able to notice them under normal circumstances. For instance: The use of flash and High Gloss surface makes even a fingerprint look bad. Height: 9.2 Inch -> 23.3 cm.
Depth: 6.1 Inch -> 15.6cm. I pack in a well overthought way, only using NEW packing materials, such as NEW, STRONG, triple layered carton boxes, NEW polysterene chips, lots of NEW bubblewrap and NEW, cut mattress foam. Unpack Instructions and user Instructions are always enclosed!
