There is no signature on this clock, and the plate on the dial was never engraved, but this is a top of the line timepiece, and appears to be Herschede. The solid mahogany case has a restored deep finish in excellent condition, preserving a few mars at the edges for a little antique character, see photos. Doors have working locks, beveled glass in the lower door is original. The solid brass movement is exceptional, with artistic machining on the thick plates.
Professionally cleaned and oiled, it keeps excellent time. There are strike/silent and chime/silent controls.
Three brass weights are wound with a crank, the pendulum and compensating steel bar are original as well. Gold plated filigree and numerals on the dial are exceptional, there is wear to the lacquer on the silver plate chapter ring for a little character as shown.
There is wear and touchups to the hand painted moon dial which does not work. Measurements are 20 1/2" wide tip to tip, 14" deep and 87 1/2 tall. This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever.A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
