Superb large German Westminster chimes and gong front opening bracket clock

Superb substantial German striking clock by Junghams circa 1907 striking the Westminster chimes on 4 tuned rods and the hour on a coiled gong (see note later). This superb clock has a fantastic case in mahogany with an opening front arched door with thick bezelled glass a brass engraved dial plate with a silvered chapter ring and two subsidiary dials for fine adjustment to the pendulum length to speed up or slow the movement and the other to silence the chimes. The original movement is a Junghams quality B07 movement manufactured in 1907 and has its original pendulum, a key will be supplied. The clock unfortunately does have a fault, the Westminster chimes run continuously until the spring is discharged, this is usually a simple fault requiring adjustment but i have not investigated this apart from Googling to find a remedy which I failed to find an answer to. The timekeeping part of the mechanism runs perfectly and keeps time, there has been minor woodworm attack mainly to the rear panel, it has previously been treated and filled. This clock has an intriguing brass plaque attached, which could be removed if desired, it states, Presented to D R Read Esq in appreciation of the motor 10 mile limit 1909. What this is about I do not know, raising of the speed limit? This clock also gives you the chance to research Mr Read, was he important?

This really is a fabulous clock with maybe a history, a presentation piece and still fantastically showy and a genuine, original and valuable antique. The clock is large and heavy at 8.1 Kg unpackaged. The clock is 45 cm high x 35 cm wide x 22 cm deep.
