Vintage Hamburg American Clock Co (HAC) Tambour Case Clock Running Chiming and Striking Westminster Chimes. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! Beautiful German oak case clock. Clock dates to the mid 1910s to 1920s period.
Unique clock here in that two wind arbors, but it is a strike and chime clock. You typically would have 3 wind arbors, one for time, one for strike and one for the chimes.
In this case, the movement has a train movement, one to run the time, and then one to run the strike and chime. Then what makes this clock movement even more unique is that the clock only strikes the hours on the hour never meant to do the 16 note Westminster chime (yes, it was designed that way). The movement is original to the case. The wood case is all there. Only exception is the open edge of the back door.
Shows some finish loss, still looks good. Nice styling and design to the mahogany wood case. The glass in the brass bezel is intact, no cracks or blistering. The case has wafer wood legs on it that look appropriate to the clock as well. The rear door is securely attached to the case. We have only wiped down the wood case with Murphy's wood cleaner and orange oil, could still used a good cleaning to bring the original beauty of this piece out to its' full potential. Nice looking face on this clock. Silver colored with black numbering, some finish loss. The clock hands match and look appropriate to the clock. Gold trim around the clock face. The hands to turn the strike on and off work as does the time adjustment component. Great looking 8 day brass movement on this clock.
The clock has a great beat to it with the pendulum off and on it. The movement has a strike on/off switch, not operating. The clock movement was just serviced and cleaned by our Clock Doc. The four strike rods and hammers are in good shape. The two springs feel sound when keyed. The clock does strike and chime as expected. The movement has the "Hamburg" logo on the back of the movement, crossed arrows, and "155/40 140" on the center bottom of the brass movement. The brass pendulum that came with the clock also looks appropriate to it.
The clock was made in the 1920s to 1930s period. The clock will come with a wind key. Nice looking silver colored metal face with raised brass numbers. Says "Wurttemberg" at the base of the face. The beveled glass and brass bezel door over the clock face look great. The glass is not blistered or cracked. The bezel is firmly attached to the clock case by its' hinges. The bezel is made out of some sort of gold colored metal appears to be brass. The case still has what appear to be the original wafer wood legs on it. This was definitely a quality clock for its' time. The rear door is still firmly attached to the case. The latch for the rear door is still there and operates. The hinges look appropriate on the front and rear doors. The clock stands 11-7/8" tall, by 24.25" across, by 6.25 wide.
